How to clean your makeup brushes (and how often you should

- Categories : Beauty

Although we use makeup brushes almost every day, we can't say the same about how often we clean them. Surely you already sensed this, but… giving it a wash from time to time is not enough.

Why is it important to clean makeup brushes?

Every time we use a brush on our face, they collect oil, dead cells and bacteria that accumulate on our skin. This accumulation of dirt and residue can cause acne to appear, but not only that, it can also contaminate makeup and reduce its duration. If you clean them frequently, the brushes will be softer and last longer.

Today we are going to explain how to properly clean your brushes and how often you should do it.

The truth is that cleaning brushes is a simple task for which you will not need many materials, with water and an appropriate soap you will be prepared to keep your tools sanitized.

What soap to use to clean brushes?

We can use any soap that is natural, regular soaps can dry out the bristles, especially if they are made from natural hair. It is advisable to use one that contains tea tree since it is a natural antiseptic, antiviral and fungicide that works wonders.

Another option can also be to add a few drops of tea tree oil while cleaning.

Once we have the materials ready, we start with the cleaning:

  1. We add the cleaning soap in a silicone base, we can also add a couple of drops of tea tree oil if we have it.If we don't have a silicone base at home we can use the palm of our hand.
  2. With the base ready or our hand prepared,We moisten the brush a little, it can be with warm water and we clean it with circular movementsso that the soap penetrates well between the hairs, massaging gently on the contours and inside the brush.
  3. We rinse the bristles very well with water., trying not to wet the washer of the brush to prevent water from penetrating the wood and the glue. To know if we have rinsed the brush well, we use the palm of our hand to see that no more foam comes out with the movement. Once clarified,We can remove excess moisture with a clean towel.
  4. We dry the brushes horizontallyFor example, we can hang them from the edge of a shelf, this will allow them to dry correctly. Avoid drying brushes with the bristles facing up, as this can also cause water to seep into the glue that joins them and into the wood, damaging the brushes. Never let your brushes dry on a towel as the bristles can get moldy and you shouldn't blow them with a dryer either.

Depending on the cold or humidity of the environment, it may take 1 to 3 days to dry well.

When storing brushes, it is advisable to protect them from environmental dust. You can store them in a toiletry bag or drawer and it is better to avoid very humid places, such as the bathroom.

Due to the times we are in, if you want to take more extreme hygiene measures you canspray a little alcoholabout brushes for acomplete disinfection.

And finally, the million dollar questionHow often should we wash our brushes?Well, the ideal would be to wash the brushes after two uses. Especially those we use with cream products.

With good maintenance of brushes you will extend their useful life but, importantly, we must be attentive to the signs that tell us that we have to change them. When your brushes start to fray, squish too much or lose their shape, it's time to let them go.
