Choose a technique for extending the nail

An extension involves two choices: how to create length and which product to build with. Magic Tips, adhesive forms and Dual Forms work differently; builder gel, acrygel and acrylic also require different methods.

Compare techniques

First, choose how to create length

The tip or form determines how you make the extension. Check compatibility with the builder product in its instructions.

Tip that stays in place

Magic Tips

An extension tip prepared, fitted and attached according to its specific technique. It remains part of the finished manicure.

Temporary adhesive form

Traditional nail form

Placed beneath the free edge. The structure is built over the form, which is removed once the product has hardened.

Temporary plastic form

Dual Forms

The product is distributed inside the form, positioned over the nail and the form is removed once the structure has been created.

The key difference: Magic Tips stay in the extension; adhesive forms and Dual Forms are removed. Dual Forms are not permanent tips.

Tips and forms for extensions

An example of each method. Choose the right size and shape before applying the product.

Then choose what to build with

The builder system determines how the extension is shaped and how it hardens. Do not substitute one product for another without checking its instructions.

Gel · lamp

Builder Gel

Builder gel shaped with a brush. Purple offers several ranges and textures; a Classic reference is shown here as an example.

Acrygel · lamp

Acrygel Combi

A product with a more controlled texture, shaped with a brush and cured under a lamp according to its product sheet.

Acrylic · air-cured

Powder + monomer

Acrylic powder is used with a compatible monomer. The mixture hardens in air; it is not lamp-cured like gel or acrygel.

Working time, layers, preparation and finish depend on the technique and specific reference. A base underneath is not a universal step for every system.

Products for building the extension

Gel, acrygel and the powder–monomer pair for acrylic. Powder and monomer are used together; they are not alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Are Magic Tips and Dual Forms the same?

No. A Magic Tip remains part of the extension. A Dual Form is a mould removed after the structure has been shaped and hardened.

What is the difference between an adhesive form and a Dual Form?

With an adhesive form, the structure is built directly over a guide placed under the free edge. With a Dual Form, the product is first shaped inside a plastic mould and then placed on the nail. Both are removed after building.

Does acrylic need a lamp?

The mixture of acrylic powder and monomer hardens in air. If Gel Polish or a Top Coat requiring a lamp is applied afterwards, that finishing product must be cured according to its instructions.

Can I use any builder with any form or tip?

Do not assume so. Check the chosen product’s compatibility and protocol, especially preparation, attachment, curing and form removal.

An extension tailored to the service

First decide how to create length, then choose a compatible builder system. Prepare the nail correctly and follow each product’s instructions for the structure and finish.
